Our story
A small-town company since 1923
A West Virginia farm mutual, owned by our policyholders and run by the same family for generations — people who have farmed this ground themselves.

The company in Harrisville, 1960.
Founded by neighbors, for neighbors
On February 11, 1923, a group of local folks in Harrisville came together to form a farm mutual insurance company — a way for neighbors to protect one another’s homes and farms. More than a hundred years later, that’s still exactly who we are.
We started in a small office on Main Street in Harrisville, the county seat of Ritchie County, and moved to our current home just outside of town in 1980. We’ve grown into a larger company over the years — but we’ve never lost the small-town feel that’s defined us from the beginning.
Through all of it, the same family has kept this company alive, generation after generation, guided by a board of directors who have served since our earliest days. The family behind W.Va. Insurance Company have been West Virginia farmers themselves — so when we talk about protecting your home and your land, we’re speaking from experience.
What we stand for
Owned by our members
As a mutual, we have no outside shareholders. Our policyholders are our owners, and every decision is made with their interests first.
Rooted in West Virginia
We write coverage right here in the Mountain State, sold through a network of local agents who know the land and the people they serve.
Here for the long haul
A century of careful underwriting and steady family leadership means we’ll be here when you need us — not just this year, but for the next generation.
